Main Aims

Metabolic dysfunction plays a key role in several chronic diseases with a significant effect on health system, including diabetes mellitus, hypertension, metabolic kidney and liver pathologies, cardiovascular diseases. “Omic” approaches may help in the identification of biomarkers to guide prevention, early diagnosis, risk stratification and therapy decisions.

This workpackage relies on several national and international cohorts and projects, including EPICOR-European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (www.epiccvd.eu), EPOS-Elucidating Pathways of Steatohepatitis (www.epos-nafld.eu/), EURODIAB (www.asris.org/progetti/eurodiab).

The main aims of this workpackage are:

1. analysis of microRNA (miRNA) and non-coding RNA (ncRNA)
2. identification by whole-exome sequencing (WES) of genetic variants associated to dysmetabolic phenotypes
3. identification by genome-wide association studies of genetic and environmental factors responsible for chronic hepatophaty (Non Alcoholic Fatty disease)
